Project Description :
The residents of an historic home in Oklahoma City approached CLS & Associates to create a space for them that could be for entertainment as well as for private family use. Because of the historical importance of the house, it was imperative that authenticity, accuracy and appropriateness to the period of original construction be maintained during the design and building process. The Spanish-style architecture would serve as inspiration to the landscape architect while working through the design. After completion of construction, the front of the home is returned to its original splendor with new plantings and accents. The size of the home was a basis for large mass plantings that would in turn provide proportionate display. The new pool and spa become the centerpiece of the back yard. It is surrounded by a concrete deck and accented with Spanish-style medallions that compliment the architecture of the house. A fence constructed of matching brick and iron fence surrounds the pool and separates the yard into three rooms. On either side of the pool space there are closely mirrored gardens and lawns and drives. The entire landscape can be experienced as a casual, yet elegant garden that can be used in many different ways. Since the design for the site was founded on existing features and the history of the home, it should be enjoyed for years to come.
